In recent years, there has been a huge increasing in indiciduals questioning if material possession is the best strategy to measure success. I firmly believe that wealthy is not a good way to measured successful, as money are cannot to completely satisfied all the human needs. From my perspective, I believe that happiness and capacity of reaching personal goals are better measures to this topic.
First, there is a point to be made that wealthy cannot provide true fullfilment. For example, several studies have shown that if someone won the lottery today, in no more than 2 years their levels of fullfilment would return to its initial value. For this reason, it is evident that having a large amount of money cannot make someone successful because individuals would get eventually used to an expensive lifestyle, which could lead to a continuos cycle of dissatisfaction since material possesions cannot fill all their needs. Furthermore, criminals are not considered successful even if they are very rich, since it is known that their material possession could have been acquired through illegal means. This being the case, if success were measured purely by wealthy, the rational choice for everyone would be to enter organized crime.
In terms of what makes a person truly successful, I strongly believe that connections are essential to a fullfilment life. For instance, a study with elders concluded that one common factor amoung those who lived more than 100 years is having a strong support network. Therefore, it is clear that human beings need to surround themselves with real connections to achieve happiness, which can significantly improve their state of mind and reduce rates of depression and anxiety. Moreover, in my point of view, achieving personal goals also indicates success, as this demonstrate someone compromised, disciplined and self-awared of what moves them.
To conclude, the overwhelming evidence seems to suggest that success cannot be mesured by money because it does not reflect on fullfillment and this believe can lead to unethical attitudes. In my humble opinion, what makes someone truly successful is having strong connections and accomplishing personal goals.
