here are various opinions about how competition affects children in schools. Some say that could affect them negatively while others say that a competitive environment could drive young students toward their goal.
A positive aspect of putting students in a competitive environment is the fact that they grow in a scolar system that perfectly reflects the modern society. Nowdays, prestigious universities or big companies require impressive resumees and outstanding skills and a premature approach to competition could give children the right mindset to succeed. Also, a competitive approach could be stimulating for learning strategy to win, and in case of loss looking at more talented students could be a good way to put more effort to win the next time.
On the other hand, from a psychological point of view, some young students put in such an environment could be discouraged by others that have a faster learning rate, thinking they are better then them and develop a low self-esteem. In the worst case this could possibly lead to some sort of traumas that could carry for the rest of their life. Furthermore, a high competition based school could cause students to only think individually, while team work is essential. Matter of fact, great part of giant companies are made my groups that have subgroups and so on, and choesively work together to achieve a common goal.
To sum up, in my opinion between a high competition and no competition at all i would choose a middle way between them, so that scolar systems can prepare children with competitive activities but also give them the opportunities to work all together toward a common goal.
