Band 7+: Task 2: People continue to commit crimes even after being punished for it. Why do you think this happens? How can crime be stopped?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many criminals continue committing crimes even after being punished. This is a serious issue, and I will discuss its main cause and how it can be addressed.

The main reason for this problem is poverty and unemployment. Most repeat offenders are poor, uneducated, and lack the skills needed to find a job. Having a criminal record makes it even harder to get hired, as companies often reject candidates with such backgrounds. As a result, many of them return to crime to meet their basic needs. For example, without a job or income, survival becomes a challenge, forcing them to resort to illegal activities.

However, there are ways to reduce repeat offenses, and the government can play a key role in this. First, instead of immediately imprisoning offenders, they can be sent to counseling centers. These centers can help identify the root causes of their behavior and guide them toward a better path. Second, the government can provide education, training, and job opportunities for them. For instance, when people have stable jobs and can support themselves, they are less likely to turn back to crime. By offering proper support and employment options, the government can help steer them in the right direction.

In conclusion, poverty and unemployment are the main reasons why offenders commit crimes repeatedly. To address this, the government should take effective measures, such as providing training and creating job opportunities, to help them build better lives.
