Band 8+: Task 2: Throughout history, people have dreamed of living in a perfect society but nobody has agreed on what an ideal society would look like. What do you think is the most important element needed to make a society perfect? How can the ideal society be achieved?

It has always been everyone’s desire to live in a flawless society although they have not unanimously decided what this kind of society would be like. This essay will explore one of the most essential factors that contribute to a perfect society before recommending what actions should be taken to achieve it.

The balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability is the most vital element to build a perfect society. This is because the promotion of the economy provides citizens with higher quality services and infrastructure, while a well-preserved environment ensures the well-being of inhabitants. Only when these two aspects are harmonized can a society be considered truly perfect. Singapore can perfectly exemplify this situation : it is not only an Asian economic powerhouse but it is also famous for such a fresh atmosphere, offering its residents optimal living conditions, whether physically or mentally. Achieving this stage of equilibrium, a perfect society, in which both materialism and human mental well-being are equally satisfied, will become more realistic because people’s happiness and living standards are the priorities of building an all-rounded developed society.

Acknowledging the requirement to achieve the term “perfect society”, people should take relevant action, at both governmental and individual levels, to make it a reality. To preemptively approach the standards, official authorities should take the negative effects that economic development has on the ecosystem into account, thereby proposing suitable policies to protect the natural landscape. For instance, more severe punishments on enterprises’ inadequate waste management would act as an incentive to raise their awareness of sustainable business practices. Individuals, on the other hand, can make joint contributions by increasing their concentration during working hours as well as updating their skills to enhance productivity. In addition, sustainable practices such as switching from plastic bags to reusable products will gradually help to improve the environment’s cleanliness, reaching the aforementioned balance.

In conclusion, while a perfect society can be recognized when the economy’s stimulation and the environment’s conditions are simultaneously ensured, corresponding actions, including introducing stricter laws on environmental destruction and encouraging workers’ better engagement, should be taken to achieve such an ideal society.
