There has been a belief that group activities can teach more essential life skills than individual activities. While people who conduct tasks alone are able to improve decision making ability and have resilience for time management, I assume that group work could foster participants with more crucial skills to overcome difficulties in the future.
On the one hand, when people work individually, they tend to have full responsibility for it. This leads to them being careful and wise when they decide things; therefore, enhancing their decision making skill. Moreover, people may also receive a more efficient use of time when working alone, since they are allowed to prioritize tasks based on their own workflow. Both time management and decision making are important skills for people’s lives.
On the other hand, I believe that teamwork provides more essential skills to overcome problems in life. First of all, skills regarding interacting with others such as communication skill, leading skill and emotional controlling skill are crucial skills which may only be enhanced through group activities. Not only can people learn how to act properly when working in teams, they may also have an opportunity to share diverse perspectives of topics; thus, receive advice or feedback from more experienced individuals, which working alone can not provide.
To summarize, despite that participants are able to improve their decision making and time management skills while working individually, these advantages pale in comparison with working in groups, since team activities not only enhance individuals’ communication skill, but also provide them a more open view of topics and give them advice to improve later on.
