Band 6+: Technology provides us a lot of means to communicate. But now that people have the ability to talk to each other in a wider variety of methods, our communication and social abilities have taken a step back. Why does technological advance hurt nontechnical communication? How can we solve this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Despite understanding reasons why people lose their social skills, humanity continues to use messages as a main communication channel every day. Because of that the ability to understand each other is deteriorating.

People prefer to use technology due to a wide range of reasons. The most essential reason is that society can communicate in distance without personal presence in one area. Nobody needs to spent time to get by her or his colleague or friend because there is an opportunity to contact each other remotely. Nevertheless, there are a lot of technological tools that make online communication more advanced: voice messages, gifs, mems, etc. However, this comfort of technological use negatively impacts on our social ability to understand other people. For instance, many people are losing the skill of empathy, reflection. Also this undeveloped social skills play a crucial role in teenager’s life. A lot of young people face with stress while having basic social contacts like buying something or asking outside a way to some place.

This problem is becoming more significant in many countries and should be solved. Parents and social institutes should be awarned about this issue and should take measures to affect it. I believe that children under the age of 10 should not have access to the internet. At this age, one of the main function of a person is to socialize and addiction to devices prevents this skill to develop. Adults also need to integrate new habits in communication: try to talk with different people offline, improve empathy skill, work and communicate in groups more.

People are losing an ability to develop strong contact and friendship because of technological improvements. It is a serious problem and society should pay attention to it. People need to change habits in own behavior and also the way they raise children.
