Working in international organizations is considered by many people to be the most efficient way to learn about different culture all over the world. While I agree that this is one way to be familiar with the traditions of other nations, I should mention that it is not the only way.
To be employed in multinational companies is a useful way to gain some experience of other cultures as there are employers from different countries with variuos culture and traditions. People spend much of their time in a working place, it means they are together with their collegues who comes from other countries in most part of their day. While working and spending times together at lunch and breaks people simultaniuosly may get into their collegues’ way of living. Consider, for example, two coworkers from totally different culture going to have lunch every day, they continuously witness the way how their work friends use the eating utilities and how they serve the food according to their tradition. After watching it constantly they easily learn this aspect of culture without any effort.
However, there is another effective way of learning culture which is travelling. Unlike just observing people from other culture, travelling provides direct experience and personal interaction, which lead to deeper and more meaningful understanding of how people live, think and behave. For example, by visiting local market or using public transport, travellers can see social norms and behaviours in real situations. This kind of exposure helps them to understand cultural differences more clearly. Another significant factor is experiencing cultural traditions and customs. Festivals, ceremonies and local celebrations provide insight into a society’s history and beliefs. By participating in these events, travelers gain more appreciation of cultural identitiy and the importance of traditions.
In conclusion, although I believe being part of multinational companies can be one way of gaining other culture, by providing real life cultural examples, travelling can be the most efficient method.
