Some people think that free-public transportation should be provided in the city by the authorities to address the problem of traffic congestion. I partly agree with this idea.
On the one hand, using free-public transportation can reduce traffic congestion in the best way. For example, instead of using personal cars or motorbikes, people use public transport for their daily commute. So this is beneficial for traffic in big cities. And it will avoid the traffic jams and traffic accidents. Besides, using public transport is beneficial for the environment. For instance, it can reduce carbon emissions from private cars and motorbikes into the air. From there, it will contribute to improving air quality in the city.
On the other hand, there are many disadvantages of using free transportation. Firstly, we have to deal with the cost associated with operations and infrastructure public transport services. In other words, using the budget for free-public transportation in the long time will cause a national budget deficit and a shortage of budget for education and health services. In addition, it causes the lack of comfort and safety for passengers because it is overcrowded such as lack of seats for senior citizens or children. And increase the crime rates as pickpocketing on the bus.
