Some people say that raising the fuel cost is a good way to reduce global environmental pollution. While acknowledging the reasons for this proposal, I partly disagree with this opinion.
On the one hand, it is understandable why the world’s environmental problem can be solved by raising fuel costs. To be specific, by high taxing gasoline costs for vehicles, this reduces the large number of people using motorbikes and cars, incentivizes them to take public transportation, as well as lessens the dioxide which harmful to the environment. In France, for example, the government charge taxes on any of the fuels used to fill up a car, which lead to a significant drop in greenhouse air emissions in this country. However, this can have negatively effects on the long term. Particularly, significantly higher fuel prices could disrupt the transportation network, supply chains and logistics in ways that lead to other environmental harms like increased emissions from less efficient delivery patterns. For instance, if several delivering business are suffer from the expensive fuel prices, they have to use energy vehicles, which also cause the air pollution in the long run.
On the other hand, increasing fuel cost is not the best solution to tackle this global problem. In fact, renewable energy such as wind, solar and nuclear are also friendly options for the environment as they do not discharge too much greenhouse gases. In Japan, for instance, most people use battery uses solar energy for household appliances, which take only a fe years to decompose. Furthermore, the government plays a pivotal role in mitigating pollution by enacting strict policies that foster people’s awareness of the importance of the environment. For example, in Vietnam, who throw trash indiscriminately have to get monetary fines from 1.000.000 VND to 5.000.000 VND.
In conclusion, along with many effects, I disagree with the idea that increasing fuel costs is the best solution to tackle the global troubling. Therefore, renewable energy could be a better choice as it brings numerous benefits which do not polluted the environment.
