Nowadays, reducing crime has become a contraversial topic. While certain individuals hold the belief that keeping criminals in prison is the best way to reduce crime rates, there are others who dissent, asserting that adopting alternative measures is more effective. I am convinced that giving longer prison sentences is indispensable to deter crime.
In the beginning, some people believe that sending offenders to jail is the solution to the increasing proportions of crime. To exemplify, it is often observed that criminals present threats to communities stability and safety in terms of spreeding fear among citizens; therefore, if they are kept in prison, people will be safer. A prominent example can be seen in many developed countries, where people adhere to rules because of the fear of punishment, so such nations enjoy a secure life. Thus, it can be said that prison plays a quintessential role in mitigating the negative impact on society caused by criminals’ behaviours.
On the other hand, another group of people argue that prison has no thing to do with reducing crime, stating that those imprisoned will re-offend after being released; as a result, they suggest that other procedures, like societies rehibilitation, should be undertaken. Accordingly, they advocate that governments and authorities should collaborate and take proactive steps, like, for example, making education mandatory for all citizens ,regardless of age groups. This, consequently, can considerably contribute to shaping more prosperous communities in which individals are morally and mentally well- equipped.
In conclusion, after providing the principle reason for each point of view, it can be claimed that prison is the most convenient solution and the proper destiny for every offender. unless active steps are taken to alleviate the problem, more victims will suffer in the future. Eventually, socities flourishing, which can be acheived by detering crime, is the responsibilty of both governments and the public.
