The most efficient way to solve traffic problem is by investing more in public transport and increasing its number. In my opinion, making more public transport available can reduce traffic jams to a great extent.
To begin with, by investing in public transport, we can reduce the number of vehicles on road which in turn can reduce the traffic congestion. Many people travel in their own cars to work and if public transport is made available more easily and frequently, then people would opt for it and thus we can control the traffic. This is particularly very useful during the peak hours when everyone needs to reach office on time and there is a lot of rush. For instance, if we increase the number of metro trains and also ensure that metro stations are close by to all the areas, then it will be easily accessible to public and they would prefer to use this because they can reach much faster than they would ,by travelling in their own vehicles.
Furthermore, public transport is more economical. With the increasing price of petrol and diesel, it would be a better option to use metro trains, cabs and buses which will be less expensive. More distance can be covered with a lower cost and in a faster way. For instance, if we opt for car pooling, then the total cost is reduced because the amount for the same distance is shared among the people travelling in the cab. Same is the case with metro and buses.
To conclude, I believe that using public vehicles helps us to reduce traffic jams because the overall number of vehicles on road are reduced and commute to work places can become easier and faster during peak hours. Moreover, public transport enables travel and fuel cost to be shared among the people for the same distance thus making it more budget friendly.
