The data reveals that social network is the main reason for teenagers to use their phone, while phone calls play a minor important role when it comes to online activity in every analyzed year.
In 2016, social networks are already accounted for half of the teenagers using their mobile phones, increasing to 56% in 2019. The second largest cause for phone usage throughout the years are Emails, starting at approximately 25%, before decreasing slightly to around 19%. While the importance of Emails for teenagers decreased over time, the digital camera experienced a slight growth in importance, rising from 15% in 2016 to 20% in 2019. The figure depicting the signficance of phone calls for teenagers over time fluctuates the most in comparison to the other figures. Before dropping to 11% in 2018 and eventually to 5% in 2019, the figure started at around 10% before reaching a peak of 13% in 2017.
