In the present day, information is available online for everyone with a device to gain access to. Because of that, some people are convinced that the government’s support for public libraries is no longer needed.
Information being uploaded online has many advantages. Digital archives can provide information much faster than taking a trip to the library, allowing for more convenient accessibility. Public libraries need maintenance, so the government needs to pay for the building, staff, and equipment; meaning that closing public libraries can let the government focus more on other important activities. In our world, things tend to change fast and so does information. With digital archives, online databases can be updated more efficiently.
Losing public libraries can have a lot of disadvantages. Online space has no guide to inform us about what we are looking for. On the other hand, libraries have librarians to help us if we need any assistance. Libraries grant access to computers and wifi for free, without it some people might not be able to use the internet to complete their task. Libraries are more than just places with books. It is a place for people to do events and meetings, such as workshops, storytelling for children, and community meetings.
To conclude this essay, the government should not completely stop funding public libraries because there are benefits that could improve society and bring people together and also allow people to use devices for free. Shutting these places down completely could affect some groups of individuals negatively.
