Band 5+: The increasingly wide use of the computer in education has decreased the importance of teachers' roles in the classroom. To what extent do you agree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

In these day ages, the proliferation of digital devices is believed to replace people in education. This notion is advocated by many people while I still uphold the idea that computers are unable to take over the primary role of teachers.

It is justifiable for some to claim that technology should be adopted to teach students instead of tutors. First, this approach can help to reduce the cost for staff’s salaries. This makes sense as adopting advanced devices would be much cheaper, furthermore, the incomes of teachers would take up a large proportion of a nation’s budget. Hence, the use of the computer can lighten the financial burden for governments, saving on resources for other aspects of life, such as healthcare. Second, technology can also facilitate learning. Some applications not only help students to review lessons, but also allow them to have an enjoyable break while learning. This generates the comfortable environment for learners, fostering a love for learning. Once engaged in school, children would perform better academically.

However, I still disagree with the previous notion. Obviously, teachers play a pivotal role in education. This is because they support students more efficiently than technology. It is true that many dedicated teachers provide learners with one-on-one attention, consequently, they would understand students, about their weak and strong points. Then, they might tailor the curriculum to align with their students’ abilities. This facilitates school performance and even unlocks their potential. In addition, the computer also sometimes acts as a digital distraction, making the lines between learning and private life blurred. It makes senses as students usually check their friends out while studying. This decreases the quality of learning. Progressively, the distractions adversely affect the school performance.

In conclusion, technology cannot replace teachers. Meanwhile, I believe that the joint approach is overwhelmingly useful when teachers can utilise the computer to teach students. This solution not only improves the quality of educating but also motivates students in learning.
