Recently, the issue has been brought into focus as different means of communication have been profusely reporting celebrities’ lives and relationships; in lieu thereof, they should call attention to the lives of common individuals. I agree with this statement, but also feel that the issue has its own merits and demerits.
On one hand, the media are drawing excessive focus on the personal lives of well-known people, resulting in more widespread coverage of unnecessary news over crucial matters, particularly academics or global economic and political updates. This would often lead to privacy concerns, dramatic gossiping, and possibly toxic comparisons between individuals. For instance, instead of having practical knowledge of history or the world’s current status, the audience knows more about these figures. Continuing the case could overshadow wiser decision-making, curiosity in practical fields, and humans’ intellectual growth, as a consequence of becoming less informed or misinformed about pivotal events.
On the other hand, the young audience tends to look up to famous movie and music stars for lifestyle inspiration. As where there is demand, there is supply – due to the notable need of the general public, the media keeps updated on stars’ news abundantly. Moreover, young audiences can multi-aspects benefit in following their role models, such as seeking to improve romantic relationships or study approaches from their success.
Regarding the given matter, other than updated celebrities, the media outlet should also commend citizens who have considerably contributed to the community. For example, the media should deliver content related to productive, helpful citizens or inspirational people, including educators, doctors, and people who strive through adversities. Praise and approval for common individuals would positively influence the public, as they may have common grounds or a kickoff not so different from one another.
In conclusion, I think even though the media are calling redundant focus on the personal lives of well-known people that limits people’s access to important announcements and knowledge, the audience could learned from and be inspired by these popular figures. Aside from that, accounting for the stories of ordinary people who should receive admiration would spark inspiration from the young generation.
