Band 6+: The old generation often hold traditional ideas about the correct way of life, thinking and behavior. However, some people think that these ideas are not helpful for young people to prepare for modern life. To what extent do agree or disagree?

The issue of whether the conventional ideas from the previous generation has a positive impact on the future preparation, manners and consideration of the youngsters, has long been an ongoing argument. Although I agree with this view, I believe that there are still some valuable school of thoughts which the young people can inherit from their ancestors.

For a variety of reasons, I hold the view that many ideas held from the old generation are no longer suitable with this ever-changing world. For example, in the past, gender discrimination, racism and prejudices used to be the barriers which stop many people from acquiring success and recognition. Conventional stereotypes had limited the potential of many people and hidden their abilities to thrive. But now, thanks to globalization as well as the development in people’s perspectives, society has become diverse with people, especially youngsters, who are ready to break the limitation set by out-dated ideas, conquer themselves and step out of their comfort zones to experience things which have never happened before. For this reason, the world will continue to develop dramatically in an equitable and civilized way.

On the other hand, there are several worthy views from the former generation that I believe that young people should follow. Firstly, every human being should pay tribute to ancestors, parents and whoever made their lives today. Taking Vietnam as an example, Vietnamese people always have an altar to pay respect to their family members who passed away. This, as a result, led to a tradition of honoring people who have merits, which is handed down from generation to generation in that country. Secondly, another viewpoint from the previous generation that I believe is precious, is well-behaved manners. Everyone, including young people, should act and behave politely to others regardless of their circumstances and status in the society.

All things considered, even though there are several advisable viewpoint, I believe that old fashioned perspective from the previous generation is supposed to be eliminated in the contemporary world for the reasons I mentioned above.
