There is a standpoint that the notions of older generations regarding lifestyle thought patterns, and conduct fail in equipping younger generations for contemporary society. Although I find this viewpoint reasonable for several justifications, I contend that various ideas of the elderly are still necessary for daily life.
Indisputably, the conventional ideas of the older generations might be outdated in the contemporary world. To begin with, the bias in the roles of men and women which defines men as breadwinners while women are assumed to be homemakers can be seen as improper and unhelpful. Therefore, such sexual stereotypes could evoke a sense of resentment and despondency in a large number of well-educated females nowadays. Additionally, traditional convictions about marriage of the elderly may not resonate with the more flexible relationships sought by younger generations in this present day. To elaborate, same-gender relationships or solitary lifestyles are now easily accepted by young individuals while the conservative seniors who stick to traditional ideas find these phenomena unacceptable.
On the other hand, the elderly’s standpoints could be helpful and justifiable for youngsters. Firstly, conventional beliefs as regards code of conduct and moral values are still of utmost importance in educating youngsters to behave properly. For instance, traditional values like respect, honesty, and hard work are timeless principles that can guide individuals to establish a foundation for personal development. Secondly, a minimalist lifestyle can be developed through parental upbringing. As a result, youngsters whose income is not favorable in the early stage of their careers can experience less financial strain when embarking on their independent lives.
In conclusion, although I agree that there are several unsuitable notions of the older generations imposing on the young generation, youngsters can still learn valuable lessons from them.
