Band 6+: The only way to reduce the amount of traffic in cities today is by reducing the need for people to travel from home to work, shopping and education. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Traffic has always been a major problem in cities today. The only way to overcome the problem of traffic in cities today is by reducing the need for people to travel from home for work, education or shopping. I strongly disagree with that reducing the need for people to travel is a best way to control the traffic in cities.

To begin with, I think reducing the need for people to travel is not a proper solution to overcome the problem of traffic in cities. Traffic has always been a major problem in cities. However, noticing the news of people is quite challenging. First of all, it takes a lot of effort to do so. People have to travel on a daily basis for work, education or shopping. Reducing these needs may help to control traffic but requires a lot of efforts and money. If everything will be spent for traffic control then many other problems arise related to education, health sector and so on.

Similarly, travelling is not a choice of people. People have to travel for their needs. People travel from home for work, education or shopping. Many works or jobs can not be done remotely. For instance, labor work, machinery work can not be performed from home. It requires physical efforts which can not be reduced. Similarly, reducing the needs to travel for education is not possible as well. In the country like Nepal, poverty is also a problem. Poor people can not afford technology to get their education from home. It may reduce traffic. However, many people will not get education.

To sum up, reducing the need for people to travel from home just to control the traffic is not an appropriate solution. Government or any other states should implement alternative solution to control traffic rather than reducing the need of people to travel.
