At present, it is an unarguable fact that overpopulation in cities is one of the most pressing issues in the world. From my perspective, overpopulation can cause some alarming challenges for human society. This essay will discuss some possible effects of demographic growth and solutions for maintaining live quality.
To commence with, the rapid growth of urban population reduces living standards by causing severe traffic jams, which occasionally lead to environmental pollution and also worth of mention is an increasing demand for housing. As the number of residents increases, so does the number of vehicles on the road, which leads to constant congestion on city roads. Additionally, vehicles on the roads increase emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, causing air pollution that is bound to trigger far-reaching consequences for public health and the loss of urban green spaces. Furthermore, an increased demand for housing, especially in prime locations, drives up property prices, meaning that not everyone can afford it.
To help maintain quality of life, governments should focus on sustainable development of infrastructure. As mentioned previously, an increased number of vehicles on the roads lead to congestion and this could be solved by investing in public transportation, for example constricting subways or Light Rail Transit. As the roads are not loaded, expanding greenish areas is another crucial step to deal with polluted air, so as encouraging residents to use eco-friendly alternatives in daily life is. Regarding housing, governments should estimate housing demand and provide affordable accommodation options.
In conclusion, even if rapid growth in demographics creates several challenges, appropriate government measures can mitigate its impact.
