Band 5+: The rise of social media has led to concerns about its impact on genuine human connection and mental well-being. What problems are caused by over-reliance on social media, and what steps can individuals and society take to mitigate these issues?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The critical overuse of social media such as TikTok, Instagram and other apps that are connected to a rise and epidemic of mental health issues, often among youth who are not in safe from bad news and who easily lose focus.

Firstly, if social media is the reason why people might not be in focus and mood, it doesn’t mean that social medias and others spheres it is absolutely bad sides of our life. It means that we should keep balance between life in a social media and in real life. In my point of view, I believe that we must keep 70/30 method, it means that we should be independent from impact of social life and be free. Secondly, it also shows how virtual world can easily get our eyes on only bad events. Only bad news in the newspaper and on the page of our phone catch our attention, because we always want to know what happening in the world. And that is not bad though, but it has a seriously bad impact on our mind, mental health and our mood. Although, there is a key how we can push it away from us, and it is simply as well, we just need to know limits and watch only hopeness and kindness type of videos, movies, esspeacialy quality games and other media.

At the final, I want to share my experience how I’ve been in this pit for a long time, but one thing saved me. I really want to say about tendency in TikTok that called “hopecore”, which goal is to give a positive vibe and mood. In the summer of 2025, there was a movie “Superman” by James Gunn and this peace of art in my honest opinion. It gave me a hope to live a happy and full of joy life. For the school I can say, that they should do events about how doomscrolling and other non-healthy habits can destroy our lives.

In conclusion, media socials are not diabolical, what we got used to hear it. For the anything we should know the limits. The youth should be more positive and be indepedent from social media and finally be free.
