It is advocated that all kinds of advertising should be banned rather than exist due to their uselessness and adverse effects on the well-being of humanity. From my perspective, although advertisements can be harmful to the public, they should not be prohibited due to the huge benefits they bring to the economy.
It is undeniable that commercials can threaten society, especially unsophisticated users such as the elderly and children. Much advertising is unreliable and lacks censorship, creating opportunities for fraudulent activities in commerce. By deliberately downplaying or ignoring potential health risks and making exaggerated claims about their products and services, brands can easily hook viewers’ attention. Should consumers have no ability in verifying and filtering information, they may believe in the advertisers’ promises and easily fall prey to the attractive facade advertisements, leading them to splurge money on substandard items. In the short term, buying deceitful products results in financial waste. However, in the long term, consumers are not only economically influenced but their health may also be jeopardized by using unqualified goods. Prolonged use of these products can lead to unwanted diseases.
Despite the aforementioned backsides, I believe that advertisements do not deserve a comprehensive ban on all channels. This is because they play a crucial role in driving both businesses and the whole national economy forward. Numerous companies invest in marketing campaigns to achieve omnipresence across various channels, thereby providing more opportunities to access customers. By expanding their consumer base and tapping into previously unexplored segments, audiences become more familiar with their products and more likely to consider purchasing them. As a result, marketing activities significantly contribute to boosting enterprises’ sales and profits, ultimately benefiting the national economy. For example, Apple and Samsung are two famous corporations that use commercial campaigns most efficiently, which is instrumental in helping them sell and profit from technology products.
In conclusion, while acknowledging the potential harm of advertising, I firmly concur that the prohibition of adverts is unnecessary. Advertisements play a vital role in thriving society since the proliferation of advertising coverage paves the way for market expansion and the flourishing of profit-driven establishments and countries.
