In recent years, a complete prohibition on all forms of advertising has sparked a degree of controversy among people due to its substantial impacts on society. Although this issue appears plausible, I do not entirely agree with the idea.
To a certain extent, I accept that society would suffer significantly if all forms of advertising were made illegal. The first reason is that the advertising industry creates a range of job opportunities for many people. A complete ban on this industry means that millions of people would face unemployment, which would have a severe impact on their lives. Another reason is that the advertising industry contributes significantly to the development of any nation. Therefore, the government would lose substantial tax revenue from advertising agencies if they do not issue these companies with a business license.
Notwithstanding, I agree with those who argue that advertising brings a wide range of benefits to society without causing any harm. This means that advertisements provide people with information about products or services so that they can make better shopping choices. For example, by watching TV commercials about different brands of smartphones, many people can choose the one that works best for them. Moreover, advertising could help enrich people’s knowledge about various aspects of life. Many children, for instance, are knowledgeable about technology devices such as computers, cameras, or iPads because they watch many advertisements about digital gadgets.
In conclusion, after careful consideration of the arguments articulated, I assert that a blanket prohibition on advertising would yield deleterious effects for society. The advertising industry not only supports economic vitality and consumer choice but also enriches public knowledge without imposing significant risks to individuals. Therefore, a nuanced approach to advertising regulation may be more beneficial than an outright ban.
