In the present, it is often argued that some approaches used in commercials are considered to be immoral and unpleasant for the public. I personally believe that advertisements are only acceptable if they hold no ulterior motives to deceive clients.
Advertisements are mainly used to communicate brand information to customers, both prospective and regulars, about the products and services that they are offering. Methods of advertising come in many forms, such as short films, newsletters, pop-ups, and much more. These strategies hold no harm because they are beneficial for the corporation’s brand exposure. For example, many video marketing ads present in major sporting events, such as the ones in the NBA’s halftime show, are able to attract millions of viewers toward brand-new items. Furthermore, the right approach can entertain certain audiences; for instance, comedy skits are a popular genre and interesting among many people.
On the other hand, improper advertisements instead are harmful for potential customers, as they usually trick them into purchasing a product that is not as advertised: This practice is called “scamming”, and is used by many companies to sell more by being fraudulent. For example, many growth pills that are available on the market do not actually trigger growth as marketed, but in many cases give out negative side effects. Thus, causing a bad reputation in the consumer market.
In conclusion, normal methods of advertisements are beneficial for both companies and clients because they give a place for both parties to communicate with each other, but having to use dishonest practices is where we cross the line.
