Many people think that some of the methods used in advertising are inappropriate in today’s society. While I admit that some advertisements might raise questions and need to be controlled by special committees, especially if they are aimed at children, in general, they increase the awareness of companies’ products that eventually may be beneficial for governments’ economy.
First and foremost, it is widely known that the main goal of advertising is to promote products. Indeed, if a sufficient number of individuals are aware of the particular product, they are more likely to buy it. Additionally, companies and businesses are usually required to pay an additional fee for each successful purchase of their goods. Therefore, the more people buy, the more the government can gain from this tax policy. For instance, a technological company sells their innovative products for 100$ in a country where an extra fee is introduced, comprising 10% of the total price. Having had a considerable amount of money, the government may build either new educational facilities or hospitals, contributing to the well -being of the society.
However, I also agree that ads should not use any manipulation techniques, especially if their main audience are children that usually do not know how to differ scam from high quality goods. Moreover, not only should they not promote casinos and other fraud schemes, but they also need to be checked by a special committee so people would not lose their money, families because of advertisements. Still, it should not be controlled by governments since it may violate human rights, such as the freedom of speech.
In conclusion, although advertisements should be checked for safety reasons, they can contribute to the economy since taxes that are paid by companies might be used later to build facilities or fund research institutions, thereby improving the well being of the society.
