Ans :The media plays a significant role in people’s lives and helps them stay updated about world events. There is growing concern about the news reports in the press mostly concentrate on negative events that are taking place in the country instead of focusing on positive developments. However, I strongly agree with the view that it has a negative influence on both community and individual.
One of the major reasons for this is that is that negative news can have serious psychological consequences. This is because the media acts as a bridge through which people obtain information. The Media mostly target on broadcast news related to violence ,disasters , also an economic crisis. Consequently , it creates a pessimistic world view in people’s perception of the world. For instance, citizens suffer from mean world syndrome due to excessive consumption of negative reports. Therefore , it can increase anxiety ,this leads to depression and stress .
Another reason for this is it erodes people’s trust in their government. This is because news organizations consistently report on conflicts, corruption, government failures . As a result, the community may lose faith in political leaders. For example, NEET exam which is one of the biggest exam of India was leaked ,as a result it negatively affects not only student careers but also on parents’ hope for their children’s future. Furthermore, news companies also engage in underreporting by not showing infrastructure developments , scientific innovations , so these factors are unnoticed.
In conclusion, although , for the media ,it is essential to cover every aspect but excessive focus on problems can have a negative impact on mental health and weaken the trust . From my perspective , a balanced approach is necessary therefore, where both negative and positive developments are reported.
