Band 5+: Success in life is mostly determined by factors outside a person's control, such as family background, luck, and the country they are born in. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the modern society, people define success in life using factors such as family background, their nationality, and luck which are usually out of an individual’s control. I completely disagree with this stance because although these factors plays a big role, I believe finances, work-life balance, and relation with your god is the criteria of the success.

Firstly, we can not define success based on these factors such as luck and place of birth . Being lucky does not matter if you are not hardworking individual, and luck can be beaten by hardwork. Football players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Jack Robert came from small town and spent their childhood cleaning steets, but their hardwork payed off and they are now millionaire while holding multiple citizenships. Secondly, family background does not matter if you do not have good relationship with your family. Many individuals who have good family background and high paying job still lives a miserable life because of lack of worklife balance, while individuals with minimum wage job and poor family background lives a happy life because of the time they spent with their family.

While some people agrue that these factors contribute to the journey of successful person, it does not mean success should be determined by it. Many individuals who have good family background, and lives in first world countries still have miserable life than the poor people living in third world countries. Countries like Bangladesh has higher happiness index than well-developed countries like America and Germany. The research team from University of Alaska found out that reason of this pattern is relationship of individuals with god. People believe in god and put their trust on god’s action. In result, even in harsh situations, they trust on god and hope for the best in future.

In conclusion, I strongly disagree with the stance that success is determined by factors which are outside of a person’s control. Major factors that defines a person success are in person’s control and its depends on individual’s that how they leverage these circumstances in their favour.
