For decreasing the traffic jams, the government is thinking about making public transports work for free and full day. As a result, people may start getting on busses rather than using their own cars, and there is no denying that the level of congestion may descend. Many inhabitants are in favor of it while I am in the opposite side.
Firstly, many people like having affordable things, and if public transports are free for them, there are some percentages that they will get used to taking busses wherever they go. So, this may be the main purpose why the many transports should be free. For instance, my mum always takes taxis that charge as busses, because she would like to save up money. Because of the free transports, she will attempt to catch those every time.
On the other hand, making public transports zero-cost is not only solution. Because, most people never care about the things they do not pay for. For example, school educations are free for all children in many countries, and the students in my area do not give their full attention on studying at school. And, there are some possibilities that people do this to public transports and their drivers, as well.
In my point of view, changing fares to reduce congestions is not an option. Because, if everything is cheap, no one will appreciate it. As a result, the equilibrium may be broken. Instead, the government should consider about it in other ways.
