The tourism industry has been experiencing substantial growth at the worldwide level over 20 years ago. In this essay, I will look at both advantages and disadvantages of this industry.
On the one hand, traveling offers numerous benefits. It creates additional job opportunities for local people. Many restaurants and hotels have been built to accommodate domestic and foreign tourists. These establishments require a significant workforce, thereby creating numerous job opportunities and significantly reducing unemployment in areas with tourist attractions. Secondly, it fosters economic development. An increasing number of tour companies are being established to offer package tours for domestic and foreign tourists. Consequently, the state will collect more taxes, business income will increase, and people in tourist areas will enjoy higher incomes thanks to the provision of services such as accommodation, meals, and the sale of souvenirs.
On the other hand, traveling also presents some disadvantages. Firstly, there are environmental drawbacks. Numerous tourists visit and litter streets and beaches, leading to serious pollution of the environment and water sources. Deforestation becomes common as local people clear forests to construct restaurants and hotels to accommodate tourists. Simultaneously, the frequent hunting to satisfy the demand for wild animal parts has put many species at risk of extinction. Secondly, there are cultural disadvantages. Tourists from around the globe bring their own cultures to tourist destinations. This compels local people to adapt to the tourists’ needs in order to continue developing the tourism industry, resulting in the potential neglect or forgetting of traditional cultures.
In conclusion, it appears to me that the merits of international tourism are more notable than its drawbacks.
