The author asserts the importance of artistic creations in the civilization above its scientific accomplishments. The authors claims that the true value of civilization is reflected in its artistic creations rather than its scientific accomplishments. I agree with the author, as artistic creations are very adroit and provides insightful knowledge and information regarding the people, morals, culture, beliefs, town-planning, etc about the civilization. Undoubtedly scientific accomplishments can’t be neglected but if there is a choice between these two then definitely the artistic creations surpasses scientific accomplishments for mirroring the true worth of the civilization.
Artistic creation includes the monuments, townhalls, some architectural marvels, town-planning, worship places, stone carvings, cave paintings, and many more. These are the valuable assets which provides profound knowledge regarding the culture, types of people, the different types of facilities in the towns, skills of the people, their imagination, etc. Studying about these areas, provides how the civilization flourished.
To enhance my argument, I will explain it with an example of the Indus Valley Civilization; considered as the most ancient civilization of the world. It flourished on the banks of the river Indus. The civilization provides many important facts regarding the new changes happened during ancient times. Today analysis of the civilization is carried out by extracting the archeological evidences from the sites and the study of the artistic creations adds in the knowledge about the artists of the civilization. The different and marvelous idols, statues- carved beautifully using only chisel and hammer shows the dexterity of the natives belonging to that time frame.
Moreover, not only the Indus Valley Civilization but there were many other civilization that flourished during the ancient times and contributed to the evolution of humans. Another example is the oldest Greek Civilization, having significant contribution to the world. Greeks taught many skills to the world by showcasing it in the form of art and culture.
Thus from the above arguments and example, I conclude that artistic creation holds more importance rather than scientific accomplishments for defining true value of a civilization.
