In today’s world, more people have possessed private cars to meet their daily commuting needs. Nevertheless, this trend has posed several challenges to the infrastructure and environment, which leads to compulsory solutions to tackle this issue.
To begin with, excessive reliance on cars cause two major problems especially in urban areas. Firstly, such a phenomenon can increase the burden on cities’ traffic and infrastructure. As the number of cars and other vehicles rises, the road network may become overloaded, which potentially results in time-consuming and frustrating congestions. Moreover, overusing cars might have some environmental effects. Exhaust fumes omitted from private vehicles, including cars, are one of the main causes of air pollution being more critical2. This can not only result in serious respiratory health problems, but also impact on the urban aesthetics.
To address these issues, more effective green transportation’s promotion and investments from government are mandatory. First of all, cleaner means of transport should be introduced and encouraged in a wider scale. Walking and cycling, for example, can improve people’s overall well-being as well as lower the emissions from cars and other vehicles. Another possible solution is that governments and authorities should invest more in viable and efficient public transport systems. Take the example in Japan and Singapore, these two nations are famous for environmentally-friendly and effective advancement of buses and subways, which receive supports from the majority of citizens. This results in people in these countries using public transport, walking, and bicycles to travel and commute on a daily basis for many purposes.
In conclusion, overdependence on private cars for personal purposes can cause problems regarding pressure on the road network and pollution. Therefore, it is necessary that there should be better promotion and financial support for greener transportation methods, not only to discourage people from using cars, but also to improve the community’s health.
