In the 21st century, the everyday consuming of social media impacts physical health of many youth, developing overweight. Therefore, it leads to the problem of coping with weight issues among young individuals. I largely agree with this view, as social media significantly influences the lifestyle of current generation, resulting in causing changes in eating habits and level of physical activity.
Firstly, social media often encourages sedentary lifestyle. Social platforms are designed in the form of endless feed in order to keep users in this app as long as it is possible, so they find themselves scrolling unconsciously sitting all day long leaving less time and energy for body movement. In addition, watching videos, playing online games, and spending long hours on social media reduce time for physical activities, which further increases the risk of gaining excess weight. Thereby, physical inactivity leads to obesity.
Secondary, digital networks can affect eating habits. Diversity of tempting fast food advertisements, and its full accessibility and their attractiveness increase probability of ordering junk food online, at the same time, lowering desire to cook healthy food at home. Moreover, because of multitasking many people have the urge to always eat unhealthy snacks and have fizzy drinks while watching something online. Thus, the habit of having bad diet strengthens.
In conclusion, prevalent use of social media makes young people tend to maintain inactive lifestyle and make unhealthy food choices, which causes unwanted weight consequences, and this issue should be carefully addressed.
