Band 6+: The widespread use of social media has caused many young people to struggle with excess weight. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some youth have problems with excess weight now, and using social media too much can be a cause for this problem. I disagree with this statement, because other reasons of overweight, excluding use of social media, have worse effect on people’s weight.

The first reason why I disagree is that overweight can be a consequence of eating too many calories and consuming lots of fats and sugar. Nowadays, many people consume so much food, which contains too much fat and sugar. For instance, countries’ GDP per person is relatively high now. Therefore, teenagers and children can buy processed food and sugary drinks in cafes or eateries. Foods there are cooked with much oil, sugar and other ingredients for flavor and odour; drinks have many additional ingridients to attract a person’s attention and make them obsessed.

The second reason for excess weight is a lack of physical activity in children’s lives. Young people consume food with a high amount of calories and move too little, so instead of digesting and giving energy, calories become excess fat in a human’s body. Much of the time, students sit at school, studying or talking with friends.

Despite these reasons, some will agree with this statement. Using social media for much time can affect young people tand can be cause to have a overweight. As I said above, overweight can be caused by eating too much and having a sedentary lifestyle. But, these reasons can be consequence of widespread use of social media. Teens watch and see lots of content on the internet. It may make them obsessed and become less active. Additionally, they see some content about food and want to try it.

Overweight in youth is caused by consuming too much content on the internet. I disagree with this, because overweight can be caused by other, more serious reasons.
