In many families, fathers have a tendency to be in the role of mothers to be responsible for childcare, in contrast, mothers will be the family’s breadwinner. From my point of view, there are several reasons for this positive development.
On the one hand, salary is believed to be the main reasons leading to this changes in families’ role. The fathers are willing to quit their job and completely engage in looking after the children if their income is not as much as their wives. Because people have a lot of daily expenses that have to be taken into consideration without ignoring the development of their children, person who earns less money have to sacrifice their job for the family’s childcare. For example, there is an increasing number of Vietnamese families experiencing this change for the wives have equal employment prospect to the husbands and they are able to make a killing in their professions. Therefore, the wives in these kinds of family are the one who bring home the bacon and their partner will support them by taking responsibility for the household chores and nurturing their children.
On the other hand, this change in the families’ positions is considered both beneficial for the women and the men. About the fathers, they have the chance to get closer to their children. The father have long been the family’s breadwinner and they have had to shoulder numerous financial burden, so they hardly have time to spend communicating and understanding their offspring. Therefore, if they are in charge of taking care of their children, they can create a huge sense of connection between fathers and children which they can hardly do before when they are the main source of family’s financial support. In terms of the mothers, when the women have an ability to break the barriers of their home to take over a job, this is a golden opportunity for them to fulfill their passion which they can barely do before as childcare is the main mission of them. Moreover, women going out to work can have an substantial impact on developing their children’s mindset about the family’s role. They will no longer have an obsolete thinking that their fathers is the only one who can earn money and their mothers role is to take care of them as in the past.
In conclusion, I think that the mothers, nowadays, have higher income compared to that of the fathers is the main factor that motivates the men to become the family’s childcare. This position switching between men and women is believed to be positive for both the family and the children’s growth.
