There is two widespread opinion about qualification of new employees: First opinion is employers should care academic knowledge, while other opinion is practical skills should be more important. Although academic qualification prove the potential of employee which is extremely useful parameter about long-term value of employee, I believe that practical skills can be more beneficial to increase the productivity of companies.
On the one hand, hiring employee based on their academic success can provide employers with foresight about potential of person. Academic knowledge are foundation of major abilities that can develop the cognitive capacity of students. Therefore, learning the essential concepts properly may enable person to enhance their professional perspectives. However, company should invest them to combine their knowledge sets with industrial processes. Because real world are not just containing course knowledge and there are also many required abilities to become successful in work life such as team work, problem-solving and stress management. Consequently, employers may predict how much value employee provide the company, but their short-term values are mostly low.
On the other hand, practical experiences can build more comprehensive skill sets for employee which make them valuable to hire. When students experience the work life or similar experiences, they become more familiar to work concept that makes them ready to give value. That is why they are more balanced option for employers. For instance, an engineer who participates major project in college may acquire team work and problem-solving skills. Moreover, this type of students can adapt quickly when they start the job. As a result, employment based on practical experiences have a numerous advantages that increase companies’ productivity and reduce the adaptation durations.
In conclusion, despite the fact that academic knowledge can illustrates the candidates’ potential value, the outcome shows up in long time. I argue that, hiring based on practical skills can be more beneficial for employers as employees are more ready to work and more adaptable the company’s process.
