It is true that in this day and age, more and more people tend to discard items after using them for a short amount of time. From my standpoint, the relatively affordable prices of products and the convenience in the buying journey are mainly responsible for this proliferation. Moreover, this problem could trigger various negative impacts on both individuals and society.
On one hand, one of the main justifications for this trend is the affordability of items available for purchase. Online buying platforms such as Shopee, Tiki, and Lazada offer numerous cheap commodities. Additionally, these applications provide users with monthly coupons or vouchers for a limited time. This encourages prospective clients to make impulsive purchases, even if they do not actually need the items. Consequently, people may end up having to dispose of these items to make room for more essential belongings. Another explanation is the ease of accessing buying applications. Today, individuals can simply browse websites and press a button to make a purchase. They no longer have to leave their homes as their orders will be delivered right to their doorstep. This convenience may prompt individuals to buy more than they need, leading to the disposal of items after minimal use.
As a result, the “throwaway” tendency could be attributed to the financial strain on consumers and the environmental deterioration. Firstly, as more and more individuals spend money on buying trivial items, this would hurt their pockets and they do not have enough money to pay for necessities such as electricity bills, housing bills. Accordingly, they have to work harder to scrape the living, leading to many mental problems such as sleep insufficiency or depression. Furthermore, environment would suffer badly from the increase in the throwaway culture. This is because when people dispose of their unused items, a substantial amount of hazardous emissions will be released into the environment, causing air contamination and impacting human’s health.
In conclusion, the growth of disposing items is identified to be caused by two aforementioned reasons. In addition, this tendency definitely exerts various consequences, which mainly are the financial burden on individuals and the environmental degradation.
