It is a common phenomenon that many people are willing spend a substantial amount of their saving for events of any kind. In this essay, It draws my interest to dive into this subject and give my opinion why this is a negative trajectory before I conclude with a recommendation.
Regarding to this subject, my friend had her money scammed online by a scalper’s website, Viagogo.com. She overpaid for a ticket to Jay Chou’s concert in Malaysia. Based on this incident which had happened recently, I opine that this is a negative development because people spend too much on a show and may fall prey to a scammer. For example, many scammers would seize the opportunity to swindle money from netizens who eager to secure a ticket to the show they desire to attend.
I know concerts or shows of celebrities influence fans to buy impulsively without considering the price of the ticket as the fans are desperate to support their idols. This phenomenon has bad influence to others in a society as the younger generation would follow suit and save their pocket money to purchase the exorbitant tickets when they grow up. These idols or superstars are raking a huge profits of this and worst still, the scalpers are making a huge profit too.
In conclusion, I recommend that government should review this issue seriously and set a reasonable price for concert, show or sport event. This is done to prevent scalpers to rip consumers off with overpriced tickets. The authority can set up legitimate website for people to buy tickets, this helps to eradicate online scammers. Official banners and advertisements are essential to encourage people to buy tickets from the right channel and refrain themselves from acquiring tickets from unknown platforms.
