In today’s world, fashion has turned into a universal phenomenon with turnover billions of dollars every year. Indeed, keep up with the latest fashion although is helpful for socialization, the negative impacts are more considerable.
Young and adults are more influenced by the fashion world due to the impressionability of their nature. They consider it as a tool with which they can draw attention, occupy a desirable position in the community and gain the acceptance of others. The fashion industry focuses on this age and allocate huge amounts of money to create an atmosphere which people think they need to follow fashion to look beautiful, smart and good enough to gain the acceptance of their fellows. Peer pressure can also give a rise to this trend.
However, problems start to arise when people sacrifice other parts of their lives to be in fashion, for example they spend all of their incomes on buying cloth, accessories and everything necessitates for keeping themselves updated with the latest fashion. Designers invest some of their incomes on advertisements which encourage people to buy more and more, irrespective of their real needs of priorities in their lives. And it contributed to consumerism and creates a false image of a ideal citizen.
In short, I hold the view that although following fashion can be helpful for socialization, it has a destructive consequences, both on personal and social sides.
