Nowadays, more and more children are caring for domestic animals. For this practice, I would argue that the disadvantages are more significant than the advantages, which I will explain in my essay.
Regarding the drawbacks, firstly, it seems that if a family has animal companions, it means that there will be additional expenses for those. Indeed, caring for and feeding pets requires a considerable amount of money, of course, this will be particularly burdensome for families with low economic conditions. Secondly, keeping a pet can be dangerous if a family member has an infectious disease. For example, if someone has asthma and the family keeps a cat or other furry animal, it can quickly trigger a relapse of the disease. Finally, it might be said that not all children actually feel comfortable with the presence of pets. For instance, for a kid who prefers to play with his toy than with animals. As a result, the pets probably will become a nuisance.
However, we should not ignore the various benefits that owning pets may bring about. First, it appears that owning pets could give and grow a sense of caring for kids to other living beings. For instance, children who are given pets that live in their everyday environment will be more aware that they must also care for and not harm all living creatures. Furthermore, children who keep pets tend to feel more secure. This is because children will always feel accompanied so they do not feel alone.
In conclusion, while this phenomenon has some advantages to some extent, I would argue that the drawbacks of keeping pets are more significant. This includes financial burden, health risks, and children’s comfort.
