Nowadays, importing food has become popular among countries. While it may pose a challenge for local farmers to sell their products and it has a serious impact on environment. However these downsides are outweighed by its benefits including high quality products and more choices for customers.
One disadvantage of importing foods from abroad is its threat to the environment. Imported foods often come from long distances, leading to increased greenhouse gas emissions from transportation. Transporting foods by ships, planes and trucks consumes a lot of fossil fuels which contributes to the climate change. Job opportunity loss of local farmers can be another drawback. As farmers cannot compete with international markets, they may stop producing food altogether. This would mean that the demand for imported foods increases and leads to high unemployment rates.
However, the advantages of imported foods are far greater. One of the major benefits of importing food is availability of various choices for people. Thanks to foods that are imported from other countries, people can have fresh bananas mangoes and other exotic fruits at any time we desire, regardless of the season. Additionally, imported foods tend to have a good quality which can be another advantage of it. When foods are being imported, their quality is always checked and only the best products end up on our market. Local foods are not quality controlled as much as imported foods. Reputation of the food processing companies is also at stakes. . If these companies don’t get good feedback from consumers, they will do everything to change the supplier and start offering foods that people will enjoy eating.
In conclusion, although there are some drawbacks of importing food from other countries, including environmental pollution and challenges for local farmers, these are outweighed by its benefits, such as high standard products and choice availability.
