Nowadays, people often argue whether the high sales of well-known products are due to the strength of advertising or the actual demand of society. In this essay, the first opinion is more likely to be true.
It is not a secret anymore that advertisement is one of the key factors of sale. Interesting and relatable advertisements are able to capture many hearts of people and eventually led them to buy the products. Moreover, public figure such as influencers, artists, or idols as brand ambassador to advertise has major contributions to the sales of product. For instance, most of McDonald outlets were full of customers when BTS become their ambassador, the fans were queuing outside just to get the special merch and menu.
Theoritically, people considers many things before they buy something, such as actual need, price, benefits, et cetera. But, modern people especially young ones often put actual need as their last reason when they found something interesting. Young people or gen z most likely exposed, if not exploring on their own, by the viral trends. They tend to buy something that has been viral or become hits in the internet as the impact of powerful advertisement, such as local t-shirt brand that has been promoted by certain public figure.
Advertisement as well as actual needs are both some factors that affect the sales of a product. But, powerful advertisement seems to have more impact and contributions on the numbers of sales since modern people, especially young generation, consider many other factors aside from their need.
