With the advent of rapid developments in the field of agriculture and transportation, individuals’ lives have been easier and convenient than ever before and their lifestyle have transformed into a more sedentary life, affecting their eating habits and free-time activities negatively, which causes serious health problems, such as hypertension, hearth attacks, diabetes, and cardiac issues, to come to light in almost all parts of world, especially in developing countries like Turkey and Greece. While the causes of overeating are multifaceted, there are several main factors contributing to this problem. In this essay, I will explore the primary causes of this issue and provide effective solutions to alleviate the effects of this growing issue.
One of the main reasons why the number of obese people is increasing day by day worldwide is that fast food is economically more accessible compared to healthy foods, leading these unhealthy foods to be more common and preferable. Another key contributing factor is emotional eating habits. This means that some certain feelings, such as stress, depression, and loneliness, can direct people towards overeating. Individuals consume high calories, sugar or fat foods throughout this period to feel themselves well. Furthermore, portions of the foods sold in restaurants and markets is increasingly getting bigger. İndividuals being unawareness of this transformation have consumed bigger portions, leading to excessive calories.
To address this problem effectively, several measures can be implemented. First, to make healthy goods more accessible and affordable, government-sponsored programs should be developed. Moreover, more healthy and nutritious menus should be encouraged in fast food restaurants. To manage individuals’ emotional situations in more healthy ways, psychological support services should be provided, and stress management seminars should be arranged especially in workplaces and schools. Finally, smaller portions should be offered to consumers in restaurants. Furthermore, governments and non-governmental foundation should work together and arrange various campaigns to create awareness of benefits of having balanced and healthy diet.
In conclusion, overeating has become a risky issue for whole society than even hunger all over the world. This problem is caused by various factors, such as fast foods being low price, personal eating habits associated with emotional changes, as well as offering bigger portions to customer. However, by making health and nutritious foods more affordable with government suspensions, developing psychological support services, and creating awareness campaigns, the effects of this problem can be mitigated.
