Tourism has been playing a crucial role in rising countries’ economies worldwide. However, while having positive effects on economic growth and cultural exchange it also had negative effects such as environmental and social problems.
On the one hand, tourism has helped improve economies and gives employment opportunities. There are countries whose economies mostly rely on tourism. For instance, in the same areas of the countries that are popular for tourists, they opened hundreds of new jobs for residents. Given that, the local people can earn decent salaries and have the possibility to work next to their house. Another important influence that tourism had is that local culture became known around the world. For example, some local traditions or food became widely familiar to the people who do not live there. Furthermore, people see these unique places as being special, and they are ready to spend their money just to have the chance to witness in person.
On the other hand, tourism has some drawbacks that are having a detrimental effect on local communities. One of these is that after tourists a lot of litter is left behind even in the places that are historical valorouses. Given that, the area and buildings that were carefully kept for hundred years are now facing this kind of disrespect from people who travel across the word to see it. Moreover, residents have to face increased prices because they live in a popular tourist area. For instance, in the tourist areas prices on food and houses are considerably higher compared with other places. People who leave there all year around have to face these costs and overcrowded areas.
In conclusion, tourism has both positive and negative effects in local communities. It helps by increasing the economy and making popular local traditions but also litter is left over after tourists visits. All these actions are helping and destroying in the same time areas that are tourists’ favorite destinations.
