Environmental problems have become one of the most discussed topics in recent centuries. Traffic jam and a decrease of air quality are several of the most acute issues in prime cities. This essay believes that these are the consequences of urbanization, and poor structure of network of roads. Switching to battery-powered vehicles and moving major infrastructures to the various locations of rural areas can be the solutions for these issues.
In recent decades, a huge number of families have moved to a major cities, due to rising economical crises, searching of better life conditions and carrier prospects. Thus, the growing population led to a substantial rise in the number of vehicles on the roads and vehicle exhausts, as well. For example, recently I read a piece of news that shows the statistics about the rise rate of the cars and number of residents for last 15 years in Baku. Another cause that plays a significant role in traffic congestion is the design of the roads which were built overlooking the possible future increase of the cars. For instance, in my city, the roads that were rebuilt, have been extended, calculating the number of cars in peak hours, while the old thoroughfares are remaining the low road capacity.
Recent advancements in technology contributed to eco-friendly car production a lot. These are the electric vehicles that work with either a sun or battery energy. Authorities should take the responsibility to encourage car consumers to purchase these eco-friendly cars instead of opting the traditional ones, by lowering the taxation. Another solution can be the displacement of universities and work places to rural areas, decreasing the number of people who commute everyday. For instance, in my country, the government prohibited the cars that were manufactured before 2015, and build the new opening universities in other regions.
In conclusion, I believe that the main driving issues for traffic congestion and air pollution are increasing number of citizens in major cities and low capacity of old roads. I think we tackle with these issues to encourage people to buy eco-friendly cars and moving the most commuted infrastructures to far locations, decreasing the number of cars on thoroughfares.
