Traffic congestion in the contemporary epoch, has emerged as an unprecedented complication amongst the general public. Significant time is wasted due to heavy traffic jam on top of that high amount of noise pollution is caused. There are a variety of causes responsible for this obstacle. The following paragraphs will discuss some of them alongside providing a valid solution for the same.
To begin with, the problem of traffic accumulation and poor transportation has arisen due misconduct in two major sectors of transportation namely roadways and decline of public transport. First and foremost, traffic issues arises due to poor management of roads. Roadways system are poorly maintained and are not capable enough to handle growing statistics of on-road vehicles. Elaborating further, the roads do not have enough lanes for the vehicles which gives them less surface area to travel leading them to congest in a small area. Furthermore, lack of traffic lights on adequate areas causes the cluster of vehicles to move on their own without any authority or regulation which leads to lack of coordination and cooperation amongst the drivers which further leads to traffic jams. For instance, an Indian city Dehradun which is a famous tourist destination attracts a lot of tourists and therefore a lot of traffic, has significant deficiency in traffic lights which contributes to heavy traffic jams on the local roads.
Leaping further, incline in private vehicles has lead to decline in the utilization of public transport facilities. Public transport facilities are becoming less economically feasible and inconvenient due to rising inflation and poor time management of busses leads to their late arrival and departure, causing inconvenience to the travelers. Inclining cost of travel in public transports leads the tourists to consider getting a private vehicle which in recent years has lead to dramatic incline in private vehicle ownerships. To resolve this major issue improvement in road system by increasing the lane capacity and intersections on the roads providing vehicles with a better area to move around. Additionally better traffic light system can lead to better coordination among the travelers to move smoothly. On top of that, usage of public transport can be encouraged by reducing cost of travel for the public. For instance introduction of electric busses in India which offer better fuel economy mitigated the cost of travel in public transport significantly.
To sum up, issue of traffic congestion is mainly caused by poor management of road networks and inconvenience of public transport. Fixing these issues as mentioned above can lead to dramatic improvement in road traffic allowing everyone to travel smoothly.
