There are competing views on whether governments or individuals should be responsible for environmentally pollution caused by transporting goods and people. Although, tackling this issue requiere efforts from both side, I believe that governments should take greater responsiblity.
On the one hand, governments can reduce transport-related pollution introducing effective measures. By providing reliable and affordable public transport, they can encourage people use cars less frequently. For example, buses and trains were convenient, people might choose them instead of driving. This would reduce traffic congestion and harmful emissions. Furthermore, governments make rules to help transport companies reduce pollution. These measure would mitigate pollution from both passenger and goods transportation.
On the other hand, individuals can also contribute by making environmentally friendly choices. They can use public transportation, walk or cycle for short journeys and avoid unnecessary car trips. Consumers can also reduce emission by choosing local products and combining online orders. For instance, purchasing several item in one order can reduce number of delivery trips. However, individuals cannot make these choices when convenient and affordable alternatives are unavailable. For example, people who live in areas with few public transport options may have to drive. Therefore, individual efforts are important, but their effectivenes often depends on transport system provided by government.
In conclusion, although both governments and individuals have responsibility to reduce transport-related pollution. I believe governments should take the leading role. They can introduce effective policies, regulate transport companies and provide sustainable alternatives that make environmentally friendly choices easier for everyone.
