Nowadays, unemployment has become one of the main concerns, especially for young individuals. Numerous people suggest shorter working weeks instead of laying off employees. In my perspective, there are some benefits to this, as well as some drawbacks. Moreover, in my opinion, it is also applicable to adults. In this essay, I will provide reasons to support my view and will give my overall opinion on this topic.
There are a wide range of reasons why shorter working weeks are beneficial. One key reason is work efficiency. Working for long hours makes people exhausted, and they lose interest in their job. Because of that, they failed to complete their work efficiently. Working shorter weeks means they will get enough time to rest and recover, and will work more effectively. Secondly, nowadays, many young individuals are suffering from physical and mental issues. Most office workers work for long hours with a meager salary. Because of the workload and pressure from management, they suffer mentally and physically. So, if they have shorter working weeks, then they can focus on their health. They can also pursue hobbies during their free time, to improve their moods and mental health.
Despite the advantages, there are disadvantages as well. For example, they might struggle to complete a deadline if they are working for a shorter time. And this can impact their performance. Moreover, they might also become lethargic if they don’t work for long. Furthermore, companies might struggle financially. However, by laying off employees, companies and people will suffer at the end. Companies will fail to meet the demands due to lack of workers, while people will struggle in their day-to-day life.
In conclusion, these benefits help adults and youngsters both. However, this can also have a negative impact on their performance and work efficiency.
