Knowledge can be found everywhere. Recently, there has been an increase in college students who choose to continue their studies in foreign countries. I believe, even though studying abroad raises several risks, such as racism and excellent individuals to change their nationality, the advantage, which each individual can broaden their knowledge and cultural awareness, and to develop their home country when they have returned, far outweighs the disadvantages.
The advantages can be specialised to each individual or their country. The opportunity to study and live for a while can be an experience to learn new knowledge and culture. Thus, by experiencing learning from experts and communicating with different people can enrich their knowledge and cultural awareness. For their country, it can be seen as an investment. For instance, Indonesia has been a developed country since its independence, so the government then established the LPDP scholarship to push excellent individuals to study in different countries. By experiencing learning with experts in their field, it can be an investment for Indonesia’s future.
On the other hand, individuals who are studying abroad can experience several challenges, such as racism and the intention to leave their home country forever. By living in different environments with different people, they can receive racist acts from the indigenous people. In addition, they also may have the intention to change their nationality, which can be a drawback for the government because they have lost an excellent citizen to develop their state.
In conclusion, studying in different countries can be an opportunity to develop an individual and an investment for each country’s future. Even though there are also challenges, such as the risks of racism and the loss of excellent individuals, I believe the advantages are predominating the disadvantages.
