People have different views as to whether university students should choose their own field of study or be forced to take subjects in a particular field that will be beneficial in the future. While some individuals argue that only practical subjects should be prioritized, I believe that students should have the freedom to decide what they want to study.
Proponents of the prioritizing useful subjects cite various reasons to support their stance. When university students are made to study useful fields of study for the future, they are guaranteed a good career and well paid job. After they graduate from universities, they will be provided with a job because the field that they study might have a valuable role in society. An example of this is doctors, whose parents wanted them to become doctors and, help people and earn a high income. As their earnings are high, they will have the life of their dreams, they say. Consequently, they should take beneficial subjects for the future.
However, if people are not interested or do not like their jobs they will not get any job satisfaction. In other words, they will always be under pressure and stress which will eventually lead to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, resulting in an unhappy life even if they have a good job. This is why students should study their preferred areas. By studying what they want, they are not only curious about it, but also perform well because they pursue their interests. This can ultimately lead to finding a job they want, thereby becoming professionals in their fields and getting job satisfaction. As an example, my brother chose to study tourism because he wanted to travel around the world. He now works for one of the leading tourism companies in Uzbekistan and he loves his job. Therefore, I think that students should be allowed to chase their dreams and study subjects they want.
In conclusion, although some still think that university students should be forced to concentrate on only useful subjects for the future, I contend that others cannot decide for students, so they should choose to study whatever they are interested in.
