Higher education is a tool for students to expand their knowledge in what they have intended to specialize on and to get prepared for the job market. Some of the university students inclined to be more oriented to one specialized science, while other ones preferred to broaden their learning capacity by engaging themselves to various disciplines.
Professional prospects and building of distinguished career motivate them seek to expose to multidisciplinary sciences. Although it might affect their focus on their main subjects, their perception to the advanced studies is remarkably developed when they are compared to their counterparts in the same batch. Nonetheless, their performance reflects the time management skill that they have gained to coordinate their scheduled required hours and the elective modules. For example some universities adopt strategies to organize summer schools to encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities.
On the other hand, academic achievement and gaining higher grades is a goal for students who dedicated their whole time to their qualification. They believe in the wisdom that says “do one thing, do it very well”, the more effort they put in their subjects, the more in-depth expertise will obtain over a long period. However, if they are not fully aware, young people could begin to lose their interest to their qualification and it might be a detrimental to their professional life.
Overall, selection of specialization is the most confusing issue for students, in my opinion, universities and research institutes should provide a wide-range of subjects enabling students to choose their preferences and shape their contributions to their communities.
