Band 5+: Violence in media promote in society, to what extend do you agree to disagree?

In contemporary world, the controversy surrounding the negative effect of media by promoting violent is a topic of debate. The humankind has been through numerous mediums of media the latest being the digital advancements. Digital world has opened a plethora of media sources like internet, TV, data which has an indirect and direct support in promoting violence. But does media only promote violence? This rhetorical question has a definite answer. Media has been also a boon to us by promoting awareness, entertaining us and provide us valuable news. Media’s hand in promoting violence is debatable however media do and don’t promote violence which we will be discussing in forthcoming paragraphs.

Media sometimes glamorize the news and present them exaggerated way, which sometimes lead to manipulate the viewers. For instance, in recent time the Palestine-Israel war had been scrutinized in the news channel but sometimes several news channels take sides which leads to a stereotypical mindset of anger in a neutral viewers frame of reference. The trend of OTT and web-series has revolutionised the digital space but it comes with many consequences the increase of PG-13 and violent scenes can develop a strong image of violence to the viewers. Another case is of kids, they tend to get easily manipulated and blindly follows anything they watch listen or learn. For example, Sports like boxing, karate and also cartoons with brutal violent scene proves to be perilous in nature to the any child’s growth. They might lean towards violence since media can prove to be a great influencer. The recent survey in Times of India states that Indian censor-board has gone much soft on criteria of violence in movies.

Media is an infinite source of knowledge and learning when used in a good manner. Media doesn’t necessarily promote violence all the time. Media always gives warning before showing and promoting violent news. Media has been a luxury for people appearing in aptitudes exams which involves current affairs. Media has been a colossal source of entertainment which has genres like comedy, thrill, auto-biographies and also it aids many businesses with the marketing done on media.

The choices involving to absorb and ignore violence is voluntary. One can easily differentiate what to watch and what not to. Although the sudden increase in violent films and scenes need to checked and keep under control. Media has its pros and cons, balancing them wisely helps in better future.
